That was the most beautiful funeral I've ever attended. Kevin Wilkes and Swoope Volunteer Fire Dept honored Jamie beyond imagination. He was proud to be a fireman and you all gave him that recognition.

James will be missed by all of us here at Swoope. One of my best memories of James was on a fire Swoope had back in June of 2015. Although James was very new to the fire department, he was the most senior member present at the station at the time when we were toned for a structure fire involving an out building. So I took James with me in Tanker 147. While en route we could see the smoke rising so this was a "no doubter". I started to tell James what we would be doing when we got there as we were going to be the first ones there. I remember reminding myself to sound calm as I didn't want to get him too excited being that this was his first fire. When we arrived we discovered this was no "normal" outbuilding, however it was more of a small warehouse. I gave James the nozzle and I remember what I said exactly to this day... "Go spray water where you see fire"... Simple instructions, and James DID GREAT. He got a quick knock down on the fire as other units were arriving and mop up was all that was left after James got done doing exactly what I told him to do. I was VERY proud of James and although his expressions never would dictate it, I could tell he was very excited and proud of himself. We will miss you James and we will make sure you are never forgotten.

On behalf of the New Hope Volunteer Fire Department, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Firefighter James Wheeler of Swoope Volunteer Fire Company. As providers of emergency care, nothing can prepare us for the loss of our own. I would like to extend a heartfelt invitation to those affected by this tragedy to reach out to myself, or NHVFD, if there is any assistance that we could provide. Wishes of peace, comfort, and understanding during this difficult time.
