On March 8, 2017 at 12:49 hours the Swoope Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched for a smoke investigation on Rolling Green Drive.
Engine 14-5 and Brush 14-8 responded with six personnel. Engine 14-5 was first to arrive on scene, the Engine Officer advised Augusta County Emergency Communications Center (AECC) of the correct address on Smoky Row Road and initiated Smoky Row Road Command. The crew of Engine 14-5 deployed an inch and three quarter hand line and began a quick attack on the fast-moving woods fire. Brush 14-8 arrived on scene just minutes after Engine 14-5 and set up downwind and began attacking the fire. The aggressive crews were able to contain the fire to a 50 by 50 yard area of thick brush and trees.
Command requested an additional Tanker and Brush Truck from Middlebrook Fire Company and units from Virginia Department of Forestry. The incident was brought under control approximately 13:40 hours, crews remained on scene until 14:45 hours. Command was terminated and units returned to quarters.
