On May 4, 2017 at 04:31 hours, the Swoope Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched as automatic aid to assist Verona Fire Company with a dispatched working house with flames showing. Augusta County Fire & Rescue Battalion Commander 3 arrived on scene and reported fire from the second floor window. Staunton City Engine 2 was first arriving apparatus, with Swoope Engine 14-5 close behind, who sent manpower to the scene while Engine 14-5 picked up and finished the reverse lay of Engine 2, setting up a tanker site.
Crews remain on scene for nearly three hours fighting fire and cleaning up.
