On May 16, 2017 at 17:41 hours, the Swoope Volunteer Fire Company along with City of Staunton Fire Engine 2 were dispatched to a woodpile on fire threatening a barn. Augusta County Fire & Rescue Training - 1 (Captain Chris Shaver) was first to arrive and initiated Stayman Lane Command.
Engine 2 was first engine on scene with Swoope Engine 14-5, Brush 14-8 and Chase 14 arriving just behind Engine 2. Lieutenant Victor Bussard, Engine 2 officer, ordered an inch and three-quarter hand-line deployed due to a woodpile fire, danger-close to a barn and 500 gallon above ground propane tank.
Crews quickly knocked the fire down, eliminating any further threat, Command was terminated around 18:09 hours.
