On September 22, 2017 at 17:29 hours, the Swoope Volunteer Fire Company, along with Churchville Fire and the City of Staunton (Engine 2), for a structure fire with flames showing in the 1500 block of Hewitt Road.
Engine 14-5 responded with six personnel, Tanker 14-7 responded with two personnel, Response 14 responded with two personnel, Rehab 1 responded with two personnel, Chase 14 responded with one personnel and several Swoope volunteer responded with their privately-owned vehicles (POVs). Churchville responded with Engine 4-7 and Tanker 4-5, Staunton City responded with Engine 2, and Augusta County Fire & Rescue (ACFR) Duty Officer responded while ACFR Engine 102 covered-up Company 14.
ACFR Training Officer (Chris Shaver) was first to arrive on scene and notified Augusta County Emergency Communications Center (AECC) of fire showing and initiated Hewitt Road Command. Crews battled the fire and extensive overhaul was needed. Command place situation under control at 21:26 hours.
